Holy Family School Goes Green!

Picture
Our Green Schools Program:

  • Supports King County Green Schools conservation goals.
  • Encourages student leadership.
  • Supports NGSS and Washington State’s Integrated Environmental and Sustainability Learning Standards

Holy Family School has dedicated itself to becoming a King County Certified "Green School." We are currently a Level One Green School and working on Level Two.  Our 8th grade class has become our "Green Team," and encourages green practices like Waste-Free Wednesdays, where every child is encouraged to pack a waste free lunch, along with educational assemblies featuring, "Garbage Boy" and "Recycling Man!"
What we do to encourage green practices:
  • G.O.O.S. Bins: a place to store and reuse paper that is Good On One Side
  •  2 recycling bins in each classroom
  • Classroom Eco-Connections workshops sponsored by King County
  • Development of Worm Bins for Vermi-compost within the classroom
  • Electronics Collection for recycling
  • Recycling assemblies presented by King County
  • Presentations by "Recycle Man," "Compost Boy," and "Garbage Guy"
  • Waste-Free Wednesdays
  • Growing vegetables in two large grow boxes
  • Middle school students research and compare different forms of energy productions, and weigh the pros and cons of each
  • Tracking garbage and recycling rates within the school
  • Water bottle refill stations are located in the parish hall and breezeway, we encourage reusable bottles
